What do I need to know as a first-time lash customer to nkd?
When you ring up and book your first semi-permanent eyelash extension appointment, we will recommend that you visit nkd before your appointment for an individual consultation with our lash technician and for a patch test with the lash glue.
Based on the colouring and thickness of your natural lashes, and what you tell us about what sort of look you are trying to achieve, we will to advise you which option to go for, in terms of how long it will take and how much it will cost.
Please come make-up free to your appointment, particularly of mascara, eye make-up and foundation around the eye area. You can apply make-up after the lashes have been applied.
We also recommend that for 24 hours before your appointment, you do not use any creams around eye area. Some creams contain oils and moisturisers that may cause damage to the bond between eyelashes and the adhesive, therefore making the lash extensions fall out prematurely.
I've had semi-permanent lash extensions elsewhere. Do I still need a patch test?
Unlike for brow and lash tinting, patch tests for lash adhesive are not mandatory. However, nkd strongly recommends that you take a patch test a minimum of 24 hours before your appointment to check that you are not allergic to the glue we use.
Help, I don't know if I want natural, medium to heavy or full-on looking extensions!
Lashes are a highly-individual and subjective look, hence why we offer a range of options to suit everyone. Some customers will want to keep their lashes looking more natural for an everyday look, while others will be going all-out for the very heavy lash look!
For this reason, we advise that you visit the salon before your appointment so we can assess the natural thickness and colour of your own lashes. Based on this, and what you tell us about the lash look you are going for, nkd’s lash technician will be able to recommend which grade of appointment to book in for, and the length of time and price of this appointment.
If you decide once you see your lashes on that you want more or less lashes applied, we will always try and accommodate this and change the cost of your appointment accordingly.
How long can I expect my semi-permanent lash extensions to stay on for?
Semi-permanent lash extensions should last as long as your own natural lash cycle — that is to say between 6 and 10 weeks. However, in order for them to stay on this long, it is vital that you follow nkd’s lash aftercare advice at home.
In order to maintain the fullness of the lashes and to keep their perfect appearance, we recommend that you maintain your lashes with infill appointments every 2-4 weeks. Although the average cycle of a single lash is about 90-120 days, factors such as your eyelash characteristics, lifestyle and general care of your eyelashes will affect how long your semi-permanent lash extensions will last.
How do I look after my lashes at home?
- Do not wash your eyes, and try to avoid crying, sweat, and steam for 24 hours after the application of your semi-permanent lashes.
- Do not swim or use a spa for 48 hours after lash application to allow adequate time for bonding.
- Be gentle with your lashes — avoid rubbing and pulling your eyelashes.
- Avoid oil-based and waterproof mascara. Only our specially formulated mascara for extensions can be worn. Regular mascara is not recommended for use as it will dissolve the bond with the lashes. Gently remove mascara with water-based eye makeup remover. Apply mascara on the tips only.
- Avoid any creams, eye makeup removers/ wipes, lotions, sunscreens or cleansers containing oils on or near your eyelashes. Oils can loosen the bond of lash extensions. Care must be taken to apply eye cream sparingly with avoidance of the lash line area.
- Do NOT use an eyelash curler on your extensions.
Can I have semi-permanent lash extensions if I wear contact lenses?
There is no problem for customers who wear contact lenses, however, you must remove them while you semi-permanent lashes are being applied.
