I've never been threaded before. How I will know if it is suitable for me?
Threading is suitable for almost everyone, even those with very sensitive skin. This is because it quite literally uses nothing apart from a piece of cotton thread, so there is no heat, chemicals or anything else that could harm the delicate skin on your face.
Threading is ideal for creating or maintaining a perfect eyebrow shape, or for tidying up or removing other unwanted facial hair. The hairs should grow back finer, softer and smoother afterwards.
Please do tell us if you are using Roaccutane (a medication usually used to treat extreme forms of acne) or if you know that you have particularly sensitive skin. In such instances, we may advise that only small areas of the face are threaded to start off with, to check that there will be no adverse reaction.
How long will it take?
That depends on the bushiness of your brows, beards or wherever you would like us to get to work. For regular brow maintenance, your treatment could take less than 10 minutes. For a full brow reshape or thinning, it could take around 20 minutes.
Do I need to book an appointment or can I just walk in?
Located in the centre of Nottingham, it is easy to take 15 minutes out of your busy working or shopping schedule for an nkd treatment. We do operate a walk-in policy and because our therapists are so efficient in what they do, you’re never likely to be waiting long, even if they are treating another client when you come. However, we can’t guarantee that they’ll always be free, so you are advised to ring in advance and book an appointment, especially on a Saturday or if it’s a longer appointment time you need.
How do I find nkd?
nkd is located on Bridlesmith Walk (formerly known as King John’s Arcade). This is the covered shopping walkway that runs from Bridlesmith Gate (opposite Coast, next to Jack Wills) up to Fletchergate Car Park. We’re at the bottom of the steps, just down from The Walk café. Click here to see a map of exactly where we are.
Does threading hurt?
It can hurt a little, yes, especially if you are not used to the sensation! We’re not going to lie and say it is pain free, because no action of pulling hair out from the root can promise that. But the combination of the expert techniques used by our experienced therapists and the soothing aloe vera gel we apply afterwards will definitely ease the discomfort.
Will my face be red afterwards?
The area you have just had threaded may appear slightly red and swollen for a short time after your treatment, yes. This will be alleviated by the cooling aloe vera gel we’ll apply. Any redness should disappear within half an hour or so of the treatment.
Can I apply make-up and moisturiser after having my face threaded?
You are advised to avoid applying make-up for around 4 hours after your threading treatment, unless it is is mineral make-up. Try and avoid putting anything else on your face in that time, although the application of unfragranced or some specialist moisturisers — for example with cooling or antiseptic properties such as a tea tree oil or aloe vera — may sooth the area that has been threaded.
How long should I leave between appointments?
Generally speaking, you will need to come and see us every 3 – 5 weeks. If you come within that time, we will give you a 10% discount on the price of your treatment.
